We wanted to take a moment to reflect on a special milestone in our journey, a memory that we hold close to our hearts. It was a time of anticipation and excitement, a period that marked a new chapter for us and, indeed, for the culinary landscape of Downtown Lebanon.
In late October, we were thrilled to find ourselves featured in none other than our beloved local newspaper, the “Laclede County Record.” The headline captured a moment that still sends shivers of excitement down our spine: “New Owners Take Over Madison Street Grill.”
Yes, that was us. We, Robert and Melissa “Mel” Walker, previously the proud owners of Mel’s BBQ, were embarking on a brand-new adventure. It was the moment when our vision for Mel’s on Madison began to transform into reality.
The corner of Madison and Commercial streets was about to become our new home. With this move, we aimed not only to introduce a new dining experience but also to keep the essence of the well-loved Madison Street Grill alive. Our pledge was clear: we would retain the steak and seafood items cherished by many, while introducing our signature barbecue recipes, a staple from our Mel’s BBQ days, to the menu.
We chose Nov. 2nd as our grand opening date, a day that would see our dream transformed into brick and mortar. We recall the palpable anticipation that hung in the air, a mix of excitement, nerves, and, more than anything, a strong sense of commitment to our community.
The Laclede County Record captured our story brilliantly, adding to the anticipation for our grand opening. We were left with a sense of accomplishment and a drive to make Mel’s on Madison an unforgettable dining experience for our guests.
Looking back at that time, we are filled with gratitude for the journey that brought us here and the continued support from all of you. Mel’s on Madison has since grown from strength to strength, thanks to our wonderful team and the undying support from our customers.
As we continue our culinary journey, we promise to keep creating delicious food, memorable experiences, and an atmosphere that makes everyone feel welcome. Here’s to many more years of good food, great company, and heartwarming stories.
